The video was taken on September 29 from an FBI office security camera in Pago Pago.
The two-minute clip also shows three people walking in the parking lot shortly before the wave struck.
The water hit the parking lot about 26 minutes after an 8.3-magnitude earthquake shook the South Pacific.
"The video was taken from a stationary security camera at the FBI Resident Agency office on the second floor of Pago Plaza in the American Samoa Village of Pago Pago," the FBI release says.
"Note that the time-stamp on the video is Hawaiian Standard Time, and local time in American Samoa is one hour earlier.
“As someone who lives on a Pacific island myself, it really brought home the level of destruction that a tsunami brings along with it,” FBI special agent Thomas Simon in Honolulu said.
